Capturing video questions??

We mostly shoot with the Sony HVR-V1U. Is there any drawback when capturing V1U footage to my NLE with the consumer model HDR-HC1 camcorder? We have used the HC1 to capture with seemingly no visable problems, BUT I notice that the V1U footage shows wrong camera data when played back on the HC1. Usually stuff shot with the V1U at 1/60th shutter shows as 1/30th when played in the HC1. F stop values are incorrect often too. Why is this? The reverse is true too. HC1 footage camera data is incorrect when played back on the V1U. We have three HC1 cameras and two V1U's and this issue is present when using any combination of cameras.

From what I understand, all Sony HDV decks and cameras can handle the 24p and 30p modes in playback. So, I would guess that the HC1 can be used to stream progressive footage into my NLE software (Vegas 7e) successfully. Any pitfalls to be aware of?

Thanks!

Ian

This is the same set up I use. I have two V1s and use a HC1 as a capture deck. I have not noticed any problems. I have not even checked the shutter info on the playback device. How are you monitoring this information? I will check it on my setup.

Hi Ron,
Using one of your V1U camcorders check the camera data to view the settings used for a tape which you shot with the V1U. Then check the camera data for the same tape in the HC1. You will likely notice big discrepencies. The camera data for both the HC1 and V1U is display information which you can enable via the menu options and view either on a connected monitor or on the LDC screen of the camcorder. I'm still needing to know if the HC1 can correctly stream 24p and 30p material into my NLE. It looks okay . . . but who knows if this works properly, especially when the camera data doesn't indicate from one camera model to the next what the proper recording settings actually were.

I, too, have been using my HC1 to capture V1U footage... are you guys saying we should capture only from the V1U?
