Possible to temporarily disable XLR inputs on A1?

I have an HVR-A1, and have a quick question.

Is it possible to temporary disable the XLR inputs and use the built-in mikes, without disconnecting the XLR block? I want to do this because there are situations where I would prefer a stereo input. I find the stereo separation of the built-in mics quite pronounced, and useful for some situations.

I notice that when I turn power to the mikes off on the XLR block, it still shows the XLR inputs as active (though obviously nothing is coming in).

What's so hard about disconnecting the audio module? Or, if taking the whole thing off (and then back on later) is too much work, just disconnect the AIS thing while keeping the audio module still attached to the camera.
