Sony A1E wide angle converter issue
Recently purchased Sony wide angle converter VCL HG 0737Y for use with Sony A1E.
Can anyone assist with two small queries on this: a) Instructions say 'remove MC protector before use by unthreading it anti clockwise'. I can't see any 'MC protector - lens just comes with rubber caps for front and rear. Rang Sony and they seemed as bemused as me! b) Instructions also say it is unwise to use filters with this lens. Seems a bizarre comment as I've heard of the lens being used with a matte box specifically to allow ND filters etc. Thanks Alan |

MC Protector
I've got the Yankee version of your camcorder and same lens.
I just screw it on, change the touchscreen to indicate a wide angle is on and shoot away. Also use a polarizer too. But I don't read (or ask for) directions. |

Given the size/weight of the Y lens, they probably don't want to overstress threads, that's my guess. The "MC protector" most likely refers to the clear lens sony makes for lens protection.
I've stuck a polarizer in between the Y lens and the cam before, it worked OK - metal filter, of course... |
