can the sony HDR-HC9
record in 4:3 format or only in the HDV format? I cant seem to find any info on this, thanks.

In the record format menu, you can set to DV, and then the DV submenus allow you to switch between 16:9 and 4:3 - there are grey "pillarboxes" that appear on the edges of the screen, I'm guessing that you could then adjust the output settings for 4:3 as well.
Short answer is it appears the answer is yes. |

You don't have to have the camera to have the manual.
