HC7 and iMovie ( hhhuge files )
Hi,
My first post so go easy on any ignorance please !! Have looked through the forum questions and can't seem to get an answer to why when I import the HDV footage from the HC7 camera it takes up approx. 36 GB instead of the 12 GB it supposedly should. Is the only way to sort this out by going to FC ? Thanks for any help Chris |

Sounds like you are somehow transcoding the files, which imporves editing speed, but enlarges the files substantially?

Imovie converts your HDV to AIC (Apple Intermediate Codec) and when it does that, the files get 3-4 times bigger.
It is the only way Imovie and Final Cut Express can handle HDV If you want to edit in "native" HDV then you need Final Cut Pro
