OT: Lexar Pro 800 Compact Flash reader

Heard some folks talking about the Lexar Pro 800 compact flash reader around here and got one. Very cool and seems to work great on my BOXX with XP sp3 32 bit. Just one little problem I encounter with it every time I read a cf disk (any brand)...I have to reboot the 'puter.

I do a "Safely Remove Hardware"l" of the device but no matter what I do I get a freeze of the system and have to do a hard shut-down and reboot. It also happens if I just eject the disk by pushing the blue lighted eject button on the Lexar.

This doesn't happen with any other device I use on the computer whether it be a firewire or a usb device/drive. And the files are fine after I download them from the disk to the drive.
Has anyone else had a similar problem with this device? And if not, any idea where I might look to find out the reason for the problem?
Thanks
mp

I have a Mac, and haven't had any trouble.

You could always just pop the card out w/o the computer's permission. There is a risk to this, but if you're confident that nothing is being written / read off the card, you should be good.

Lexar Pro Reader

Thanks for the reply. That's what I do, nothing is being written for sure, but it will crash the system every time. It's weird cause nothing else does that on my system.

Have you connected the Firewire 800 cable to the firewire input on the motherboard of your PC or to an input on a separate card? Sometimes choosing another input solves the problem. I had this kind of troubles all the time with my different pc's, but since I switched to Mac, everything works fine. I have the same reader, by the way.

Lexar Pro

Good thought. Being a older PC I only have a separate internal firewire card with three ports available. That's where it's plugged in...I may try swapping with another one of the ports...who knows.
Thanks!
