Anyone ever try one of these? Any idea if it will allow you to take HD Component out of a HD direct TV box and allow it to be recorded on a deck bypassing the HDCP?

We've used the AJA mini-convertors on several installed jobs with HD-SDI infrastructure.
The AJA HD10C2 converts HD-SDI to Component Analog HD. The AJA HD10AVA goes the other direction, Analog component HD to HD-SDI. http://www.aja.com/html/products_converters_mc.html If you need SD to HD, or HD to SD converts, that's another even more expensive device. |

I own the Blackmagic Analog to SDI converter and I am very happy with it. I use it to convert component out of my XDCAM HD to HD-SDI.

They mostly seem to be 5v DC. They're missing a trick there aren't they? 5-20v DC would be so much easier to deal with for professional onset.

I have a black magic hd-sdi to analogue mini converter. It's 12v and I have run it off d tap. Before I did this I spoke with Blackmagic's chief electronics man. From memory the essential conversation went along the lines that the converters will run between 11 and 13v dc. Above that and there is some sort of safety switch and the converter will not function - but theoretically won't be damaged... Keep this in mind because if you were to try running the device off dtap it will have to come from the a regulated 12v dtap. Many cameras offer this. You would not be able to run it directly from a well charged lithium battery with d tap as the voltage would be too high.

I never measured the dtap out on the sony cameras (at the handle front) if its regulated or simply put through...
Could this work? As we speak I schedule a big project with HD live mixing - so I will have one or two component-to-HDSDI lines again... Thanks ULI |

I'm not sure if the in built dtap at the front of Sony cameras is always regulated. But certainly the digit betas I have used were and the PDW700 and F800 are. I have run my black magic mini converter off them.

I've just been informed of this little chap: Datavideo Technologies Co. DAC-8 - HD / SD-SDI to HDMI Converter
About the same price as a Blackmagic mini convertor, but accepts 9V to 15V DC. Edit. But it might not work in 1080p, waiting for a response from my reseller.

Oops my mistake. Try this:
