lens with 2X extender
What would be a good lens for around 10K to 14K with a 2X extender for the XDHDCam? This lens would need to be at least a 17X lens without the 2X extender. Camera and lens combo would be mainly used for objects over 150yards. Seem to be having trouble finding a 1/2 lens with a extender for under 15K, does one exist in the 10K to 14K range? Thanks

Why donīt you check Canon KH16e*5.7IRSE?
Itīs about 12.000 5.7mm 16X with extender. I think itīs a good everyday lens. Despite some distortion in the widest position (5.7) we are quite happy with it. Good luck choosing the best option! |

I think you might be out of luck
I looked for exactly what you described at NAB last week, and it doesn't seem to exist. We shoot a lot of agricultural scenes, so like you, we need our lenses to be longer instead of wider. Canon has that lens that Juan mentioned (KH16ex5.7IRSE) for around $14K. The Canon lens you really need for the long shots you describe is the KH21ex5.7 IRSE, but that lens lists for around $25K. Pretty darn expensive.
Fujinon has the HS18X5.5BERM/ERD, but even that lens runs in $18K ballpark. There just seems to be something fundamentally wrong when you spend more for the lens than you do for the camera. If you find what you need, please give me a call over in Starkville. It sound like we're looking for the same kind of lens. |
