New XDHDcam Deck??? at DVinfo.net

Has anyone heard of the new XDHDcam deck and when it will be released. At the Sony booth during NAB I overheard one of the Sony guys talking about a new deck that will be around $3K. Just wondering if anyone has any specifics on the deck. Thanks

John, that is the new stand-along drive for ingesting XDCAM material. It will be read-only at first and is expected to have write-back to disc capability in early '08.

Thanks, so what would be the difference in the f30 deck compaired to this new version?

This is a computer drive, not a deck. It will feed most edit systems just fine, but you can't hook it up to a monitor and watch your footage. You would have to first bring the footage into your editor, or into a computer through Sony's viewer software in order to watch it.

The drive has USB 2 connectivity....no Firewire.
