NAB: Final Cut XDCAM Support

Does anyone know what we can expect at NAB on further support
from Apple's FCP with XDCAM?

if they know then they can't say ... and if they say then they don't know.

lets hope for native quicktime support for proxy editing ... while we're at it we might hope for native quicktime support for mxf

Fcp

Apple just told me they do not support the XDCAM HD proxies, but with the Sony software we could pull the files out and FTP them back to homebase somehow. I was planning on testing this with a broadband cell card, but the trick is... how do we playback proxies to air when they get in? Anyone know an NLE or transcoder that will work with them?
p.s. I believe the proxies are a flavor of MPEG4

FCP will render them to any timeline you choose, provided you disable the extra redundant audio channels in the proxy file before bringing them in. Sony is correct though, when they told you they do not "work", you have to screw around with the file first.

This is partially because the XDCAM Transfer software encapsulates the raw MXF proxies in a Quicktime wrapper when bringing them in.

In other words, FCP can deal with them, but every NLE handles this stuff differently.

They are indeed MPEG 4 and the owner's manual states that the proxy files are for non-commercial, personal consumer use only. IOW, I don't believe it's legal to air the proxy content for commercial broadcast. However, I'm not a lawyer so it might be best to consult the following link which is given in the manual (Page 170).
