How good is the SD output of the F330/350

How does the down converted SD footage compare to that of say a DSR450 or similar camera. Is down converted HD footage better than native SD?

Absolutely - it is.

This opens the option to shoot in HD and use the downconcerted signals for SD editing.

You can also start editing proxies, exchange to HD footage and downconvert it in your NLE, if downconverting is of good quality in your NLE.
