Clip Browser doesn't recognize PMW500 UDF clips

I asked this question in the 'EX' section first, but as the PMW500 is kind of a hybrid product, I hope I have more success here.I 'm trying to compare 4:2:2 footage from a PMW500 in UDF-format to 4:2:0 footage (on a FAT-format card), but I don't seem to succeed in ingesting the 4:2:2 footage in FCP via Clip Browser. I downloaded the UDF driver, but to no avail. Clip Browser keeps saying it doesn't recognize the media. I must be doing something wrong here...

Hi Luc,

To get the clips off the 500 you have to do this.
Open FCP, go to file, import, Sony XDCAM Browser.
This will open the new XDCAM Browser 1.1 or 1,2 which you will have to download and install.
Once in the new XDACM Browser find the SXS card on the left side and click this. This will load all the media off the card into the software. To get the clips all you have to do is right click the clip or clips and Register for Final Cut Pro. Another way would be to highlite a clip, go to file, Register for Final Cut Pro.

Cheers

Re: Clip Browser doesn't recognize PMW500 UDF clips

Hi Simon, thanks for the tips. I was trying to ingest the clips with Clip Browser, but I see now that I need XDCAM Browser instead. Works perfectly as you described. Strange though that Sony didn't include XDCAM 422 ingesting in Clip Browser...

Clip Browser is only for XDCAM EX, and XDCAM HD 422 is not XDCAM EX.

Re: Clip Browser doesn't recognize PMW500 UDF clips

Thanks Doug, I understand that now, but the Clip Browser manual created the confusion by stating under "XDCAM devices supported by the application: XDCAM HD422". It supports clips emanating from the PDW-700, but not from it's solid state brother PMW 500, apparently.

So I suppose the 'Copy Error Check' (CRC) feature is also lost when copying clips from the card to a hard disk drive? At least I don't know a way to do this in XDCAM browser. That would be a pity, because one cannot be cautious enough with 'RAW' material.
