F-335 Help
Sony F-335 Help
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We are thinking purchasing Sony F335 cameras for our newsroom. Since the 335's have Composite video and audio outputs, what to we do to convert the output signal to SDI or HDSDI for Live Shots? We are assuming they would look kind of crappy if we didn't. Would we have to purchase an analog to digital converter box? Thanks! |

The F335 also has component out. You would need a component to SDI/HDSDI converter. Companies such as Miranda and AJA make them. If you only need SD video then they are not too expensive $500-$700. But if you need HD and you need to embed the audio they start to get much more expensive, almost to the point where an F355 which has built in SDI would be no more expensive.

thats exactly what I was thinking of for my f330.
Of course , there is a second A/D conversion (cam : A/D , output D/A, conversion A/D) , but running SDI cables is much easier than long analog lines. As long as you have a nice & crisp analog image , the converter always makes sense - otherwise an integrated SDI port makes more sense due to no A/D conversion. AJA recently presented a line of converters, called "MINI-CONVERTERS" - there is also a component/HD-SDI box , probably fulfilling your (and my) needs (incl. 4ch audio, though my f330 only outputs 2 at a time).
