PDW700 and 24P
I'm not actually interested in 24P, but I know a lot of people are and there have been numerous discussions about it's lack on the the PDW700. Apparently the PDW700 chip is the same one as in the HDC1500 studio camera, which DOES do 24P, so presumably the 700 can too. And the F355 will do 24P too, so obviously the XDCam HD system is capable of it too. I get the feeling the PDW700 is entirely capable of 24P, but is just being allowed it in order not to compete with the likes of the F900 etc. Or am I just being cynical?

When I remember exactly, 24p is the reason a camera "is allowed" to carry the "CineAlta"-Logo.
The 700 does not have the Logo, so the camera does not have 24p. And, in my opinion, she will never have. Just because of marketing-reasons. When she would have 24p, nearly nobody would buy a HDCAM. |

I posted this on an other thread but yes, 24P will be available on the PDW-700 as an option around NAB 2009. This is official info from Sony US. Adding the option will allow the PDW-700 to record native 24P and as a result, would qualify for Cine Alta branding. This is my own interpretation here but may be the option will come with a Cine Alta sticker you apply to the side of the camera...

This is not unlike the added functionality given to the 350/355 over the past year or two. My camera can do things it couldn't do when I bought it. -gb- |
