USB/MultiPort speed?
Sorry if this was asked earlier but I can't find any info. The multiport seems really fast. Is it possible it's as fast as USB 3?

Re: USB/MultiPort speed?
USB3 micro ports are WIDER. They have an extra jack adjacent to the main normal looking micro plug/jack. It is used for the extra contacts necessary for USB3. So, the X70 one is a regular USB2 port. :-)

Re: USB/MultiPort speed?
Keep in mind that Sony uses a two layer set of contacts at the camera end - there are 10 more contacts (on top of the usual 5) if you use their cable that "could" emulate a USB 3 plug/jack... we all know how much Sony loves proprietary interfaces and special cables/mounts!
There's been limited documentation of the "MULTI" plug/jack, and from experience, it seems to have different implementations in different models. SOME accessories work with SOME MULTI-jack equipped cameras, and not others... RX Cybershots and "Handycams" have different pins enabled... Keep in mind that USB 3 on the computer side still typically uses the "old" rectangular cable end... who knows what Sony does with the cable/interface!? |
