Re: 4k Upgrade now ready for pre order
I just purchased mine. I'm assuming the update will come on a SD card?

Re: 4k Upgrade now ready for pre order
According to the rebate it says this:
End user purchasers of PXW-X70 who took delivery of their product on or before March 31, 2015 and who purchase a CBKZ-X70FX 4K license key during the promotion period from a Sony Authorized Reseller, Reseller of a Sony Authorized Distributor or Direct from Sony can receive a mail-in cash rebate. Eligible product must be ordered by and shipped to the end user within the promotion period in order to qualify for this rebate. What about owners (like me) who took delivery of their X70 after March 31st? Could it be, that March 31 was when they lowered the camera price? I'm wondering what is so unique about the 31st? Any thoughts? Thanks,

x70 price drop/new cam coming Sony's fiscal year ends March 31st. And the lower price started as early as April 2nd (I don't know first-hand if it started on the first, but I would assume so). |

Same old problem that makes this camera useless. Only 12 times optical zoom.

Re: 4k Upgrade now ready for pre order
Thanks for the link Paul...... I'm fortunate enough to have purchased the camcorder well before March 31'st. I definately feel that "ALL" PXW-X70 owners should be offered this rebate. In my opinion, bad business. Thanks again, Ray

Re: 4k Upgrade now ready for pre order
Not really. The clear image zoom is pretty darn good. In fact, I doubt you could tell where the optical ends and the clear image begins. Now, I understand that when you are using 4K, you will lose some of that clear image zoom. I believe it changes to 18X, but most of what I will be doing w. 4K is down converting to 1080 anyway, so I can crop in anyways.

Re: 4k Upgrade now ready for pre order
I don't think so. Doing the way they are doing it, ensure the customer who paid a premium for purchasing the camera early is not punished for doing so. This way, we all pay the same price for the camera and upgrade. It's equally fair for everyone, and doesn't screw the early adopters.

Re: 4k Upgrade now ready for pre order
It's fair, Sony is offering a rebate for all the stress and heart problems they caused for the wait for XAVC L ingest capability......punitive damages of sorts. :)

Re: 4k Upgrade now ready for pre order
You download the 2.0 firmware and install it, which is free and available now. The 4k upgrade is shipped as a piece of paper with just a key number that you use to unlock the 4k inside the 2.0 firmware, as I understand it. B&H says it is supposed to be shipping the key numbers out today.

Re: 4k Upgrade now ready for pre order
B&H today removed the notice on its order page for the 4k upgrade that said expected shipping time would begin today. It now just says "Coming Soon. Shipping time unavailable."

Re: 4k Upgrade now ready for pre order
I got an email from B&H saying that the upgrade is now expected to ship now on July 3rd.
Damn...gotta wait some more. |

Re: 4k Upgrade now ready for pre order
Vistek in Canada apparently has it in stock. No rebate and 700 beaverbucks. Free shipping though!
