Sony X70 and the BlackMagic ATEM
This is just informational and I thought y'all might want to know.
I purchased a BlackMagic Production Studio 4K ATEM system for my school. At the same time, I purchased three PXW-X70 cameras for the system. A lot of factors went into that decision, including cost, but I feel I've made the right decision. The SDI ports directly connect to the ATEM so I don't have to have any HDMI converters for long runs. The smaller form factor of the camera is perfect for my students (middle school age) yet the quality of the video is quite nice. We're still testing the system out, getting the settings right, and, well, training my "crew" in using the gear but one thing I like is the ability to record on the SDXC cards in camera as well as output from the switcher to the BM HyperDeck. With students, there will be mistakes and having the ability to use the camera recordings is a pretty cool aspect of the system. The two recordings match really well in post. (We use Premiere CC.) The camera is a win for us. We can set it up as a studio camera or use it to record "packages" for our news program. Win win in my book. Everything we've done so far is either testing or for in-house use only. I'll post a video later so y'all can see what we're doing. |

Bob, now that you've had the X70s for a month or more - how's it going. Are you still liking them? What settings have you found that work well?
