1:33 rear anamorphic nikons and si2k
For sake of the curious, I used the SI2K for test fitting and zeroing in the backfocus for a remake of the body of a Laowa 1:33 rear anamorphic adaptor.
This work was to enable it and Nikon F-Mount lenses to be offered up to PL-Mount cameras which the Laowa adaptor is designed to suit. For Nikon lenses, this hack it doable - just. For canon EF-Mount lenses it is not possible due to the wider diameter and closer to sensor flange face position of the mount which conflicts with the position and dimensions of the PL-Mount which would surround it. The original product serves PL-Mount lenses to PL-Mount cameras. It is a well-made product, well thought out and performs completely as claimed and was tailored to suit Laowa's own zoom lens. Rear anamorphics were introduced to eliminate artifacts and flares which characterised front amamorphic adaptors. Nowadays in a contradiction of terms, those image defects are now sought after by digital film-makers and even introduced in post production. Laowa parent Venus Optics advises that versions for other lens mounts are intended. The company has also announced its own self-contained anamorphic lenses to come soon.
