The si2k oled electronic viewfinder.
This viewfinder was an expensive option for the SI2K. When correctly set up, it works fine. If not correctly set up, you may find yourself underexposing your image if you are tempted to go with what your eye sees instead of managing exposure with the histogram, false colour assistance, spot metering or a separate light meter.
P+S in their usual manufacturing excellence have set the mounting of their viewfinder up so that when adjusted in its tilt plane and the appropriate lens selected, the viewfinder image to one eye and your free eye view coincide precisely. This makes follows of aircraft in flight a whole lot easier. If there is a downside it is that P+S did not include an iris in the Evolution styled eyepiece. It is therefore possible for focused sunlight to burn and terminally damage the internal OLED panel. The damage spreads with time and operation so that the panel becomes unusable. Best practice therefore is to cover the eyepiece and develop a habit of pointing it down when not in use. This is not a bulletproof solution. It was an automotive rear-view mirror reflection which took my viewfinder down. So covering the viewfinder when it is not in use is really the only best practice. |

Re: Si2k handy hints
A while back I changed the system of mounting the recorder drive from the CRU Dataport25 "magazine" system to an EVO Eziswap open dock which fits in the same drive space.
Sadly, the market for the big SI2K P+S recorder body did not remain viable long enough for a second SATA channel to be enabled or it would have been possible in both the CRU Dataport25 and open swap options for a second drive to be available. The Eziswap system is a little more fragile than the Dataport but is more convenient to use. The second drive space kin the Eziswap cannot be enabled but is a handy place to keep a spare drive stored. Footnote. Image upload failed. Sorry about that.
