Audio Q
I’m new to high end audio gear so bare with me. Is it possible to use the SI-2K body with Sound devices 702t and a digital clapper? How does it all work together and are there any good links or books that explain setups in detail?

It should be possible - the 702t has line level out which you can feed to the SI-2K. If you want to sync the timecode of the two units I think you need to get a USB timecode box (www.adrielec.com/usb-tc.htm) to link the two units. Your timecode slate should take the feed from the recorder.
Apart from getting higher quality recording I'm not too sure of the benefit of doing this. You are still only recording two tracks. You will still need a mixer if you have more than two mics and you wont be able to 'unmix' them later. I would be looking at a four (744t) or the new eight (788t) channel recorders to make it worthwhile. |

Thanks for the advice Rohan. I was thinking I could borrow a friends 422 mixer if needed, but you’re probably right about the 744t/788t being a better long term investment. Most of the marketing/advertisements we do are simple yet very high quality.

Hey John,
Rohan's spot-on about how to get LTC timecode into the SI-2K. You also need to set the "Slave LTC" mode in the TIMECODE SETTINGS dialog box in the UTILITY MENU. Note that right now we don't support timecode generation in the software, only reading via that LTC->USB device from Adrienne Electric. Thanks, Jason |
