si 2k mini upgrades
It it still possible to order the si 2k mini for 12,500 or are you forced to spend the extra 5k? ALso, do any of the new upgrades do anything for image quality,if so then I would understand, but if someone doesn't find them neccesary, then I guess they would want the old one.
Has the price gone from 12,500-15,500-17,500? Thank you |

The current pricing increases occurred for orders that happened after the announcement at IBC. Pricing was due to the increased software functionality and addition features and functionality that we have added to the MINI head at NAB with the new P+S Technik design, universal mounting system, industrial connectors, US dollar vs. Euro, etc.
The new MINI head includes the IRIDAS color-correction interface, 3D and multi-camera syncing capabilities, status LED's, tally light, increased frame-rate and resolution options (older MINI head only went to 720/72fps, not the new 720/85fps and 150fps at the 960x540 mode . . . there's also the addition of additional 2K modes as well), long-shutter modes, new and improved green-screening capabilities, adaptive and optimized decoder settings, etc. There are a lot of new features with the new MINI head and control software. Older customers who purchased the older MINI head can get some of the software-only features such as the increased frame rates, IRIDAS color-correction control, new green-screen algorithm, but will have to upgrade their head for any features that require new hardware. Also remember thought that the MINI head goes with the new software, meaning the two are not in-seperable, so if you purchase a MINI now, you also have to purchase it with the latest control software with the new improvements as well. Thanks, Jason |

Would a macmini running bootcamp be powerful enough to run the si 2k mini. Also, is the hardware(pc components) in the full si 2k as powerful as a mac mini(the latest version).

The hardware in the SI-2K is more powerful than the Mac Mini, but I do think the Mini should be fine for 1080P work . . . the higher 2K rates may be questionable in that you could *probably* run them at the lowest compression settings, but I do not think it will work at the higher-quality compression settings. We have some information in our support FAQ on the difference between the compression setting modes.
Also beware of overheating with the Mac Mini . . . I do not think it will be as tolerant of hot temperatures as the SI-2K. Thanks, Jason |
