Call Me Mike
Hello everybody,
I'd like to present you a short movie called "Call Me Mike". It has been written, directed, and edited in 36 hours, during a short movie festival in Cordoba, Spain, september 2006. We were 6 directors from les "Filmistes Associés" (www.lesfilmistes.com - soon in English) to write, direct, act, edit it. It was a little bit messy, but we somehow manage to finish it without killing each other. You can watch the short here (length : 3'26'') : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_3NJWkQWvJc or in a bigger size here : http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xqnvo_call-me-mike Hope you'll enjoy it !

It was, how should I say this, a bit odd? Guys telling lies to each other is normal, but not much to make a movie about. And it could have done without the silly masturbation scenes.
I did watch it all the way through, which is not something I feel forced to do with clips posted here. So, it kept the interest long enough to get to the end. I kept hoping it would get interesting. |

Hi and thanks for your comments.
I'm glad some of you found thos short funny. Steven, I think we definitely don't share the same kind of humour ;-) We had a lot of fun making this video, and I must admit I enjoy watching it. Even the "silly masturbation scene" as you call it. But I guess we are all different and don't make fun of the same things. Anyway, thanks for posting here. Bye.

Gilles,
I really liked it. The mood is nice, and the cinematography was cool. Very nice look. The security footage of the bouncers was a nice touch. The actor was good for the part. ++spoilers below for those who care Only two things stuck out to me for consctuctive comments.... first, I think for the payoff it was a little bit longer than it needed to be. You could cut a couple of the less funny or meaningful bits (the cheaufeur, the sliding on the bench) and increased the overal impact of the piece. Second, I wanted a more concise ending. The friend could have been in Miami in that shot, so it took a while to establish that he was lying too. If you could have put him somewhere that it was so obviously not Miami, all you would need from him is "you know where I am? Miami" - and show him looking at a cow, or down a small Spanish srteet, or something more visual - then you can cut out on that and have it hit more. I know how those 36 hours can constraining, so you did a great job. Keep it up and post more for us. Last edited by Barry Gribble; December 29th, 2006 at 11:32 AM. |

Gilles,
Well, there are all kinds of people, and everyone has a different sense of humor. You can't expect to make us all laugh. And the difference in cultures certainly adds to the difficulty. Keep making the movies, and you'll entertain a lot of people. |

Thanks Barry,
I think you're definitely right when you're saying that some scenes could have had much more impact if they had been shot somewhere else. I had that feeling ion the scen with the restaurant. It would have been more fun to show Mike alone in a Mac Donalds, slowly eating a Big Mac with no one else around... Steven, we do agree on the fact that everyone has a different sense of humor. And I actually don't expect everybody to laugh at this video. I'll keep making movies, thanks for the encouragement.
