Installation Impossible 1 - TV commercial
Hello all. I've got a 30-second TV commercial I'd like to get opinions on. Here's the link to download it in WMV format. If you NEED a Quicktime format, let me know and I can make a link for that as well.
Here's the link: http://www.sendspace.com/file/6c71ov Thanks for your input. |

Good work. I loved the space to earth transition and the fire into the camera at the end. I didn't like the blue tint to the guys skin though.....

Yup, lose the posterize effect on the skin-tone... how are you going to get legal clearance to use the MI theme?

Legal clearance? I thought you didn't need legal clearance for a spoof-type commercial. The music was recreated. I don't actually mention "Mission Impossible" anywhere. I've seen other ads that spoofed movies or shows, and I doubt they sought out any legal clearance. I'd be interested to know more, though, from someone who knows the laws on this kind of stuff.
By the way, it's not a posterize effect on the skin, but the combined effects I was using did give it that look. I'll see what I can do. Thanks for the input. |

You cant use copyrighted music for ANYTHING without legal clearance. The parody thing gets leaned on all the time but it is not valid in 99% of cases. Is your music confusingly similar to the MI theme? Yes, it IS the MI theme. You will need to pay whoever owns the publishing of the MI theme. Re-recording something only gets rid of the performance royalty, not the songwriting royalty. DONT EVER EVER NEVER EVER run something without clearance because once it has run, they can charge whatever they want and drill you to the wall.

Got it. I didn't realize this would be such an issue. Thanks for the heads up, though!

You should check some stock music sites, many have legal rip-offs that are similar but skirt legal issues. Similar pace and style and production but slightly different notes...
