Re: University by the Numbers - Feedback Encouraged
It looks good and is well recorded - with a decent voice over and inspirational music. A nice production. I like it.
Not sure I understand it though? What are these numbers? Numbers of students? Subjects? Staff? Sports successes? Loads of people from within the state and out of it - lots from foreign countries? Very admirable. I don't quite get who the video is for and what the purpose is? Or maybe it's just a 'we exist' video? If it was for new students does that help them? is it an expensive part of the country? Where do people live? Most of all I'd like to know how good the education is - everywhere nowadays, it is expensive, so how many got a 1st? What do you get there that you don't get somewhere else? If a parent watches it, would it suit their requirements for their kids education. Does it specialise in sciences, or engineering, or the arts? Or is it a bit general - where do their students end up? I'm a Brit - so US geography and educational excellence I am poor at. What did I remember about the video? Virginia and a reference to an old John Denver song? Virginia looks very nice. They do lots of sports. Modern classrooms with lots of glass. Old teachers? Is that the same as ones with current or professional experience? It's a very pretty, well produced video product - audio and video carefully crafted, with a script that says absolutely nothing apart from how nice it is. No facts or substance, just numbers that without context go into your head and straight out again. |

Re: University by the Numbers - Feedback Encouraged
The purpose, as I see it, is to convince prospective students to choose to UC as their university. There are many, many universities in the US and every year a number of young people is trying to decide to which ones to apply. And if more than one accepts them, to choose which one of them to enroll to.
