Re: Flight Ops Aboard an Aircraft Carrier
Hi Rob,
The majority was shot with the FDR-AX100. The barricade drill was done with the Canon HV30 (HDV). The Osprey sequence was shot on the XF305, as well as some of the foul weather clips. The rougher-looking EA-6B footage was shot on the Casio EX-FH25, and the Family Cruise stuff was a variety of cameras; a Casio (EX-FZ1000 (?), XF305, Panasonic DMC-FZ200). Cockpit footage was with a GoPro. The AX100 has been a great camera for this type of usage; a mix of 4K and of course the slow-mo. Sorry about the shaky helicopter flare-dispensing shot, I got frustrated trying to get the clip stabilized in Vegas or CS6 PP but decided to leave it in as I figured I'd never get to see that again. In exchange for a bunch of my slow-mo footage, a squadron gave me some cockpit footage, which really gave the video a nice boost. Almost forgot, the Sony PXW-FS7 was used for 2 clips; there's a slow-mo touch & go where the front tire never touches down (side number 111 I think it was) and the Welcome to Sunny San Diego marina was shot in 4K interval mode. Thanks Nate. It's a real privilege to be given the access that I have been allowed. This video project was begun 4 years ago and had to be shelved many times. I determined to finish it this year, and it's great to finally have this one in the bag. I have numerous hard drives full of this stuff just from being on the ships so often. My day job has nothing to do with video, and it's just a hobby to beat back any boredom. I basically shoot when I need to take an extended coffee break. I'm glad I got plenty of shots from the fantail with the jets landing directly overhead, as now the policy is to close the access to the fantail during flight ops. Mark |
