Evo X Rally Test (SDE)
Most rally teams will do a test day a few days before a major event. This involves engineers, a driver and a private stretch or road with a surface similar to what the team may experience during the real event. The driver will make some fast passes, request some adjustments to the car, repeat. It's also a good opportunity to film some action prior to the main race.
Here's one I filmed yesterday (solo) for the Fastron World Rally Team, with the Indonesian Rally Champion Rifat Sungkar. This was shot in about 4 hours, in the middle of nowhere, New Hampshire. Because there wasn't much time, I ended up using most of the shots from the test. I'd say 90% of the corners I filmed (handheld, FS100 with the Sony DT f/2.8 16-50mm) ended up in the final. I also had a Sony A77 with a "plastic fantastic" f/1.8 35mm lens on a tripod for a few locked shots and a few GoPro cameras mounted on the car. I did lose one UV filter thanks to rock spray. But that's to be expected. Enjoy! |
