Pod or Brace

I just shot a soccer game using a borrowed photo monopod (flimsy, too light, stiction) and the results were OK. I am looking to buy a monopod as I need it for these kind of situations. I was wondering if a Spider Brace might be better, but I would also need a LANC control.

Any thoughts?

Edit - Oh, VX2100 with Beachtec DXA-8 and hotshoe mounted shotgun.
