wireless follow focus system FINISHED!
hey guys/gals, after weeks of hard work and many mistakes we have now finished our follow focus system for the dvx100/100A...it hits marks nail-on and is very easy to use! check it out...it's GREAT for steadycam, dolly, jib arm and for doing rack focus for tripod shots.....here is a link to some pics.

Outstanding, Obin! I hope this isn't a dumb question, but can the rig be modified or adapted to control zoom instead? Or in addition? Thanks,

if demand is high enough we could make a mod for the unit for zoom.....

Very impressive Obin. I especially like how the focus gear looks like a movie reel.

If you would adapt it to fit a wider variety of camcorders, I think you could easily increase its marketing potential.

how much is it ?
just curious cause we used a pro remote follow focus on the DVX100 on one of our first shoots with it (a mini series for CBC) - it was owned by our steadicam op and he adapted it to fit
however his was on the expensive side nick |

I think I am going to start around $1200-$1300 for the system as shown..later I will offer 1 million pixel wireless video monitor that mounts on the controller to the system as a "Total Package" deal for true wireless camera control for focus so that you need NO wires at all on the camera for pulling focus ..remember this is a completly handmade system using machined parts etc...not some cheap plastic unit ;) and not easy/cheap to build :)

I will try and have a few on hand once I start production on them
we will have to see how the demand is for them.... most likely I will make them on the weekends untill the demand outgrows that production level..if it ever does... |

Hi Obin! I know this is an old thread, but is there any new news with your wireless focus unit?

I've been talking to Jim Bartell (the manufacturer of the Bartech) about the soon-to-be-immediate need for a lower cost lens control system--the folks who intend to buy a RED and plonk it on a Flyer/Glidecam/whatever will be needing something and sure they'll be unhappy spending the $4k it costs to get into a single channel Bartech and M1 motor ("that's how much my whole stabilizer cost!!!"). I'm sure someone will step up to the plate; it's going to be tough though.
