Recommendations: Art Theory + Film Technique?
Any recommendations for books that discuss art theory with film technique? I'm looking for something that would help make the theory more practical ... and the technique more artful.
The one that I have - The Visual Story is a good primer for art theory in film. But I'm trying to get find something that's more in-depth and uses real films as examples. Even a good art theory book that uses examples from other visual arts would work. Thanks in advance. |

One of the best true visual theory books I have is Herbert Zettl's Sight Sound Motion: Applied Media Aesthetics. It very effectively straddles the boundary between practical examples and perceptual theory. It's an expensive book (I'm not really sure why) but see if you can get a good used copy through Amazon. I think it will fill your bill, to the extent I understand your specification.
