How is the front and rear glass? It is not that clearly visible in the photos.
What is the 1/32, 1/6, ring? Macro? Is this lens compatible with the Canon XL1 iris controls? Is it compatible with XL1 zoom controls? Sorry if some of these questions are elementary. Many thanks. |

No problem ...all questions are welcome!
The glass on both ends of the lens is in excellent condition which means that there are no scratches or marks on the glass. The 1/32 and 1/6 ring twists to engage the two neutral density filters. The macro ring is perhaps the biggest thing I will regret about selling this lens as it allows the kind of close-up shots one can only dream of with the standard-issue lens. With the macro ring you can have the lens within an inch or two of an object and have it in focus ...very nice, indeed. As for the controls ...the iris is controlled via the camera the way you may be used to with the standard lens using the wheel under the Exp. Lock and Lens Release buttons. The zoom can be handled either manually or using the zoom controls on the camera. The switch on the bottom of the lens controls which zoom you use. Manual zoom allows those edgy "The Shield"-like snap zooms that seems to be all the rage. Of course, you can always select the motor-driven zoom for nice smooth zooms and creeps. Again, this is a fantastic lens ...I'm simply not getting the kind of use out of it I had hoped I would and have had to leave it in the bag on my most recent shoots due to the need for IS in those situations. I hope this helps & I thank you for your interest. :) |

Hi Jeff,
I'm very interested, but based in the UK, are you accepting international offers? If so, are there any additional costs involved? Cheers, Luke
