Believe it. I'm looking at those links and getting bummed that I spent $130 on mine. Yes, it is a rediculous price... for a piece of plastic and two wooden sticks.

I got my slates made at Panavision too. The great thing about Panavision is that they will custom make them with whatever layout or sticks you want. The standard size slates were about 85.00 a piece with the insert slate being a bit less. They work great and are worth the money. There is a base price but is varies depending on the customization. Rick, did you get yours in L.A., New York or Miami?
Here's a couple of other suppliers that carry slates. www.filmtools.com www.lightcatcher.com/sobranteslates.htm |

I've seen slates similar to the B&H Image-2000 on eBay for around $35.

16X lens
This is a good buy for a 16X Auto! It has a buy it now, which is like $439.00. Barring some quick response here by someone who wants to give away their lens, I would jump on this one.

Sell the wife, keep the camera. Just kidding, I know how hard it is to get rid of something when you find yourself having to set your priorities. I've had to do it several times, and each time I kick myself in the pants for parting with an item I really love.
Wish I could help, but I've invested my children's inheritance in an XL2 and accessories. Dan

thanks... I saw that and thought the same thing. I was hoping to find an older 14x manual for around $500 before jumping on that.

14X and 16X manuals are going for more lately, not less. I guess it is just that there are more cameras out there that they work on. Lots of XL2s being sold I guess.
Good Hunting! Mike |

Quite right; the older Canon 14x manual lenses (and the Optex-converted Fuji 14x manual lens, when you can find one) typically hold their value at about $900 or so these days.

I was hoping to pick up one of the Canon 3X Wide-angle lens for substantially less than $1150, but it appears they are holding value well also. If the price is too close to full retail though, I'd rather just buy it new.

Hi Chris,
I bought 14X manual and it was pristine, but got the opportunity to trade it for a new 20X from a XL2 and could not pass it up. I still look for another 14x or 16x, and the ability to use it properly. Only time will tell! Mike |
