Outdoor light reflector suggestions?
What suggestions do you all have for bright outdoor foldable reflectors.....I see there is quite a it of size variations, and some seemed to reflect a rather small light region.
I see the different colors available too. Ebay seem sot have some pretty affordable ones, although I am not sure of the quality.

I've got this one:
For $40 it's hard to beat, but I see they've got a Chinese knockoff for $12 now, that'd also be hard to beat. :-) |

I second the vote for Wescott. The larger the better (especially since you can also use it as a scrim). What will you be shooting? Do you have an assistant? If not, a sturdy light stand with boom arm or reflector holder is a must. You might even need two stands if you're using these as an overhead scrim. Don't forget the sandbags. Even a light breeze will make these reflectors act like a kite. Haven't tried the knockoffs, but for that price, pick up a few in different sizes. One of mine has 'tree-crud' on it after only a year of use. Doesn't affect the image, but it looks ghetto.

Re: Outdoor light reflector suggestions?
I have three 42-inch pieces; one is gold/white; another is silver/black; the third is 1-or 2-stop translucent. I learned that the holders are pretty essential. Now I am contemplating purchasing C-stands. :-)
They are very handy for solving situations where you could use a light but don't have one or for quick set-ups. With an assistant or two, you can create a good lighting situation out of a bad one. |
