Rotolight RL48 test

Hi all. I have had a Rotolight HL48 ring light for a couple of weeks. This is one of the sweetest lights I have used, it simply slots over the mic foam windscreen on your cam, and gives a lovely even spread of light, with no hot spot. A supplied filter set gets you the colour balance and intensity that you need. I have put up some comparison shots here.
See what you think.

I've been looking at thee Rotolight system today and found your post.

Great job on showing the differences between no light/light differences!

Thanks!

I was looking at an ad for the rotolight just the other day and was wondering how they would work.

I was shooting a "Run and Gun" style home inspection with an HM700 last week, (documenting the weatherization project for a tiny little town here in South East Ohio.) The house was DARK, the quarters were TIGHT, (big house, small rooms, and the owner was a HOARDER!) and THIS would have been ideal!

Putting an incandescent light on it would have been TOO much and would have probably burned me or one of the inspectors we were huddled so close, (actually, your HM100 would have been ideal in that shooting scenario too. Love the relative compactness of the 700, but MAN! Up in attics, under houses, in closets! Gah!!!)

Saw the Rotolight demos, but those are always pretty. Thanks for the practical review. Need to put one of these on my "Need" list.

All the best!

-Dan

*Edited to Add: "Took it off my 'Need' List. It's now on my 'En Route' List." Going to shoot ANOTHER home inspection after it comes in.*
