HMI's from the major manufacturers are pretty well constructed to protect people from the harmful UV effects. There are safety switches and glass lenses that prevent this. It's best to power down, unplug the head cable and let the head cool if you have to change globes. Leave any maintenance to an authorized repair facility.
The Alzo bulbs look interesting, but I don't believe that they are true HMI's. When using these, you'd have to throw a Third Blue gel in front of them to get the proper color temp. But used in a practical lamp, it would be okay to go a bit warm. Might be worth checking out.
