Camera Mounted Light - options for XL1s??
I am getting ready to film a feature film using Dogme95 rules. Since one is allowed to use a camera mounted light, I am wondering if anyone has experience with what all is out there to fit on my XL1s. I know that Canon makes one but I'm looking for other options as well (since the Canon light is rather "tall" and I'm looking for something a bit more compact and "boxy"). A light with its own battery pack would be nice as well. Any suggestions from y'all are welcome.

There are several good lights on the market that should meet your requirements. Take a look at NRG http://www.nrgresearch.com/cat.html they also make battery belts and other power supplies. Cool-Lux, Frezzolini and Anton Bauer round out the other major manufactures. Zotz Digital carries the NRG and Cool-Lux http://www.zotzdigital.com/ and are a sponsor of this community. Anton Bauer and Frezzolini are available from B & H Photo http://www03.bhphotovideo.com/default.sph/FrameWork.class Take a look at those and post back with questions.

I've heard Frezzis are the best.

They certainly are the most expensive.
I was working on a project (shooting/co-producing) and the producer wanted to shoot some stuff at night in the swamps (we were taping alligators). So I bit the bullet and invested in a Frezzi HMI Mini Sun-Gun for my XL1. The project was scrubbed about a week after the Frezzi arrived. <sigh> Anyone interest in a never used Frezzi? (Josh, what are you doing up so early?) |

Good Morning Ross,
I split and moved your *I'm confused post* and gave it a new title *What is Dogme* It was out of place at the end of the portable light question. Sorry if I've caused any confusion. Your new topic and several replies can be found in the DV Discussion forum. If you have any questions about the split feel free to email me or post here. Again, sorry if I've caused any confusion. The Mini Sun-Gun does not come with a dimmer. The complete kit cost me over $2,000.
