Impact 3-Light Value Kit

Was wondering if anyone had ever used this?
I have a need for basic, infrequent use of
portable lighting for interviews in clients' homes.

Dave,
Short answer: no, I've no experience with them and don't recall references to them here (although a Search will be more reliable than my memory).

The instruments appear to be designed more for still photography, as their reflectors seem to be more of the photoflood variety. Of course, photons are photons and whatever works for you works. But you will have a challenge trying to control the spray of these lights. It will be a bit like doing an electrical experiment...under water.

Well, I had read about a guy on a different forum
who had got the kit a couple weeks ago and he said
he liked it, and mentioned that the stands were
sturdy.

Sturdy stands would be a blessing. The stands that came with my $1,000 Lowell kit were less than desireable. Add that to the cheap plastic knobs that stopped tightening, and it was a huge waste of money.

If I'm not mistaken, B&H has barndoors that you can add on to this value kit, for like $30-$50 each. Total it all up, and if it works, great. You have a 3 light kit for around $300. If not, at least you didn't drop a grand or more to find out it is junk.

Keith,
Are the barndoors made by Impact? Or which ones are
you referring to?

These were listed in the accessories. They aren't the greatest barndoors, but would probably work for a basic project.
