"SoftBox" trouble
I picked up a 1K watt light and it has what I guess is a fairly standard ring that snaps on to the light and can rotate. This ring has 4 spring loaded thumb screws that point in toward the center or snap in to place in a outward radiating position.
Somehow the 4 metal rods with fatter ends attach to the ring and the fabric stretches over this. If this hardware is somewhat standard, is there some pictures and step by step how to assemble the thing. Someone out ther has to have put one of these together and knows what I mean... Anyone ? It's driving be crazy ! I would realy like to get this set up as it is the first real light I bought for my video projects. it's going to help so much. I just know it. Thanks. Dangit. Figures, right after I post I see this. http://www.owens-originals.com/SOFTB...0ASSEMBLY.html Different brand but the steps are probably similar. HOLY COW. I think I got it. I was at wits end and actually ground off the lats 1/8" or so of each rod.

I had a similar experience. You've just got to mucle those rods into the corner pockets. On some, you insert the rods into the corners of the front cover. Then, attach the rear portion (reflector) with the velcron. Be sure the rods are in the correct holes on the metal collar--usually 90 degrees apart.
BTW, I'd wear eye protection when assembling these. |
