Nate, do you know of a soft case that will accomodate a shoulder mount camera with matte box attached? I can't see anything in the PortaBrace line that is wide enough.

Kata makes some stuff that big, but then it's pushing carry-on limits. The one I've seen is long enough for a Varicam or 730A/F900 w/wide angle lens. That is, very long, very wide.
I have to put my mattebox in my AKS for any sort of travel.

Another hard case option
In addition to Pelican and Stormcase hard cases, there's also a new case from Italy under the brand HPRC. It has all the standard military grade certifications for durability, and it's 10%- 20% lighter than Pelican. Of course, it's still a hard case, so it's going to be heavier than a Portabrace soft bag.
One other option is to buy the HPRC hard case with removable Portabrace soft bags inside. Ship the heavy version, carry the light. See the Portabrace "combination case" option at the bottom right of the page. http://hprc-usa.com/2700w.htm That link is to the HPRC 2700W wheeled case, similar in size to the Pelican 1610. It's always good to have new options. Thanks for letting me share... |
