I am happy to say that Phil from Focus call me within minutes of my email to support. He took me through the steps and I got it to work.
So far the main thing that I don't like is that you can't have the P2 or a tape in the camera if you want to record HD to the FS-100 only. The other thing I notice is that you can't play back throught he component out fromthe FS-100. I haven't had time to play much with either the camera or the FS-100 but so far the features over shadow its draw backs.

You can have a P2 card in the HVX and record to the FS-100. In the set up menu for Firewire control in the HVX, choose External for control. Then the recording will go to FS-100.

Panasonic HVX-200 User Manual page 114.
This is really sweet! We can record on the P2 cards first then when they are full recording continues on the firewire output, i.e. FireStore or direct to computer/HDD. I'll be testing that out as soon as my Firestore arrives. So now our continuous record time is maxed out at 106 minutes with the FireStore and 2 8gig cards in use. Also, there is a setting for both P2 cards and the external device to record simultaneously. Now we've got two seperate recordings of our footage. Instant back up! |

I spoke to soon, I can't record either with the tape or the P2 card in.
I have my camera set to FW EXT. control and the FS-100 to tapeless (or normal) Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong? Thanks
