Firewire to G4 laptop question
I don't have my HVX200 cameras yet, but soon. I'm going to be recording to a couple of new/old 1.67GHz processor G4 laptops to Raid drives, and I'm wondering if you guys here have any thoughts suggestions on the best place for long firewire. AVS has some 30-foot right angle out 4 pin from the camera to 6 pin straight connector to the laptop for $50.00. Is this the best way to go, or are there other deals out there that have high quality long firewire for less?

David,
I think the best place for this thread is in the "non linear editing for Mac" location. To answer your question, check out www.fwdepot.com. They have everything you'd need. Keep in mind that for transmitting HD across Firewire from the HVX, Panasonic recommends a cable not longer than 4.5 meters or about 15 feet. I agree with that assumption based on my own testing. You should get (2) 15 foot FW cables and a repeater in between to keep the signal strength up for such a long distance. Talk to the people at FWdepot, they're a great help. |
