First Quarter 2006

Hallo everybody. I am an happy videomaker XL1s owner. But I am going to cross the HD river: I look for more definition (obviously). So I finally put my eyes on the HVX200. The only thing that I don't like is that the camera hasn't got changeable lens as the XL1s (thinking about mini35). But I am in love with HD DVCPRO.
Sorry for this long introduction.
I want to communicate that the availability (as the panasonic website says) is fixed for the first quarter of 2006.
Someone please controvert/contradict me (panasonic's website)...
Here's the link...

For clarification, that's 1Q 2006 for Europe. www.panasonic-broadcast.com is the website for Panasonic Europe. Panasonic US still says that they'll arrive in the US in December 2005.

It is now December

Hi,
Is there any update on when the HVX200 will actually be available in the US?
Thanks so much,
Stephen

Yes,
We're hearing 12/29.
I sure wish it was sooner!

Last I heard from a Panasonic authorized center where pre-ordered it is January 3rd.

B&H is expecting their first shipment no earlier than January 5th. At least that is what I have been told by two separate salespeople. Another local vendor here that deals with Panasonic broadcast products and Varicam hardware told me they're expecting "second week of January, unless something changes".

So to all the people who jumped me for claiming a release of 1st quarter '06 back about 2 months ago, all I can say is... "HA!".

...Unfortunately, I was hoping that you were all correct and I was wrong. Apparently we will just have to keep waiting.

Yeesh, if someone's going to be late for an appointment with me I prefer they call and tell me well before we're scheduled to meet not after they're already late. Panny should have said they were going to miss the deadline back in September or October--and no, technically releasing it on Dec 29 doesn't count as on time in my book. Black eye for Panny.

Well, you know, in a few months it won't make any difference anyway, and by then, none of us will be thinking very much about whether it came out in December or January.

The Panny site says "available this month." Guess we need to define "available."

Tish tosh. It won't matter in a month or two, but why do Panny play these games?

So we don't desperately go and run into HDV. I just hope that by the time it is released, the camera will be flawless and so spectacular that we thank them for refraining us from going HDV.
