HPX 171 sound monitoring
Somebody is going to say RTFM on this one but I'm really booked and don't have the energy.
Tomorrow we'll be shooting with a boom connected directly to the camera and to some external device. I currently don't have the camera with me and can't test this so I'm asking you folks... We'll be recording from the inbuilt mic and from the boom. And my question goes: how can the sound guy listen only to his sound being recorded from the boom. If you plug the headsets in the camera you'll hear the mix of all the channels. Is there a right combination of CH1 and CH2 that needs to be selected in order to listen only to the input 1 or 2? Thanks!:) Hope I was clear... |

I'm not sure how audio switching works on the 170 unfortunately, but I'd be surprised if the sound guy doesn't have at least some mixer he can monitor from, and any audio recorder (external device?) worth it's salt should have it's own monitoring option.

Re: HPX 171 sound monitoring
So...it turns out you can't monitor a single channel. At least not in my experience. All that you can do is monitor either the the 1. and 2. channel or the the 3. and 4. channel. What we did to solve this is have the boom pole mic plugged into input 1 and then set the channel 2 to input 2. Which meant that we were monitoring channels 1 and 2. But since channel 2 was empty of a input device all that came through was the sound from the boom. The only downside of this method is that the sound was coming out only on one earphone...

Re: HPX 171 sound monitoring
Set both channel 1 and channel 2 to input 2 (inside the LCD). Plug into input 2.
The internal mics will then record to channels 3 and 4, but only channels 1 and 2 (both recording the boom mic) will come through the headphones. Both speakers will give you the boom mic.
