SDI cable question Pana Related

I do have a Pana HPX500 & HVX200

To go from HPX500 to monitor within a few feet is there any difference if I use a component cable with BNC adapters from the SDI out on camera to SDI in on Pana monitor compared to buying a cable specifically for that ( Canare BNC to BNC (SDI) Serial Digital Interface Cable - 6 ft)?

Thanks for your time.

Darrin I have a SPX 800 is similar camera to your HPX500, I use SDI out alot it works great, has embedded audio all with-in one BNC cable, component is good if your equipment is limited to component in/outs, I'd suggest go with SDI, cable length is no problem.

I guess my question wasnt too clear. I was told by the company I get my supplies that I dont need a special cable that I should just take any component cable and add bnc plugs and plug that into my hpx500 sdi out and into the sdi in on monitor. They said if I am in close range there is no need to buy a cable specifically named SDI cable. Is that correct?

HD-SDI is digital (as you are probably aware) so a cable either works or it doesn't.

For HD-SDI, you should get a 75 ohm cable with BNC connectors.

If you actually study the spec's, it is difficult to find an actual cable that meets the specs.

However, for short distances, sub-spec, true 75 ohm, good quality BNC Cables work.

The following is a 3' true 75 ohm cable with true 75 ohm BNC connectors from Comprehensive.

The following is a 1.5' version:

I am currently using a 25' Comprehensive cable for HD-SDI successfully.

Thanks for all of the great info. I ordered the cable today but on a shoot today I took a component cable and plugged in one side with a BNC plug to the HPX500 and the other side to my 17" Pana monitor both in the SDI female and the picture was great. Not sure if I will notice any difference with the other cable but I will soon find out.
