How to attenuate GH4 onboard mic, levels too hot?

Even with audio gain set to the minimum -12db, when I record an orchestra the mics completely overload/clip. I'm recording seperate audio and only need the camera audio to sync but it is so overloaded it's just an overloaded "wall of audio". Am I missing a setting to further attenuate the onboard mics for a loud (not rock concert load) source? Also, I do have the limiter turned on already.
