Low Light, Noise and Noise Reduction
Everyone is obsessed with low-light and noise. Here's a video with two very low-light scenes shot with a nonfast lens (F4) on the Z Camera E1. For each scene the out-of-camera shot is first followed by the Neat Video NR application. Two observations: 1. The Z Camera noise is visible, but has no chroma content - and there is no smearing of detail (unlike on many Sony small-sensor cameras and Yi action cams), so the in-camera NR is light. 2. The Neat Video NR is quite good - the noise almost disappears, and the detail is retained. See the noise in the first clip around the number 1490 on the car.

When I upload a DCI 4K video, it is displayed in the UHD Window with its aspect ratio retained (no squeeze), so you see top and bottom bars.

Touch Screen Focus Pulls by WiFi
From your phone, connected by WiFi to the Z, you can pre-select and store two focus points (A and B), then go between the points with no focusing delay or glitches. The stored points are focus pre-sets, not where you are asking the camera to try to focus. The focusing occurs at a chosen point first (by touching the phone screen), then the point is stored. So, you get smooth transitions, touching A then B and back and so on, as seen in this test video.

Good match: the SLR Magic 8mm f4 lens ($169) and the Z.

Re: $249 Z Camera E1 4K and DCI 4K Videos
I ran the camera 3 hours indoors checking with a infared thermometer for heat wifi on/off recording/or not on ac and battery with hdmi out to a switcher. The ambient temperature was 20c and I was not able to get the E1 to heatup beyond 40c. It mostly hovered around 38c and gave no warnings nor did it shut down.
Something else: the hdmi out 1080p does not stop when recording 4k internally unlike the ax100 which is a big plus for live streaming Last edited by Bruce Dempsey; January 1st, 2018 at 09:01 AM. |

And I can report that it shot hours of video at -10C outdoors. I was worse for wear, but the camera did fine.
