GH3 1080p not working with external recording devices

I try to record with my GH3 to either a Ninja 2 or a NanoFlash.

Camera settings:
recording 1080p25
output setting 1080i or auto

Either device recognises the incoming signal as 1080p (pFs coming in over the i signal). But images turn out to be interlaced thrown in the progressive frames. Thus with terrible interlace artifact.

This does not happen with other cameras (FS700 and Gopro over hdmi).

Anything I am doing wrong?

Check the output settings for the HDMI. It is selectable.

Re: GH3 1080p not working with external recording devices

Thanks Alan. I know. It just doesn't seem to work properly. I should set output at 1080i, so it will be dealt with as as pFs by the Ninja. Strange thing is that I got it working a few times!.

Like yesterday. I did some shooting at 720p50, then switched it to 1080p25 again (with 1080i output on GH3). I then switched off the Ninja and possibly also the camera, to check the shot on my computer and it was alright. Properly 1080p. Then put the HDD back in the Ninja, switched camera and Ninja on, faulty again. Since then I have tried every combination of order of switching from 720 to 1080 and switching on/off camera and Ninja to see if I could replicate what happened. But no succes, can't get it working properly again. It remains interlaced.

Issue is with both my GH3's. And also when I connect it to my Nanoflash. So to me it looks like a disfunctioning of the GH3's HDMI output.

Re: GH3 1080p not working with external recording devices

I gave up trying to record with the HDMI output of my GH3 because of this. There is something off with how Panasonic programmed the HDMI output. It works great with my monitor but recorders are a crap shoot.

Re: GH3 1080p not working with external recording devices

This is part of the reason (along with peaking) that I will upgrade to the GH4 as soon as it is available. It is designed for external recording, which Panasonic didn't seem to take seriously with the GH2 and GH3.

Thanks William for your reply. Now at least I know it is not me. I'll stop trying.

Re: GH3 1080p not working with external recording devices

Docea,
Are you able to trigger the blade using stop/start on the GH3 or are you manually pressing record on the Blade ?
Also, is anyone use the GH3 or 4 and Ninja with a HDMI-SDI converter ?
I have one and will run a test to see what happens.

Re: GH3 1080p not working with external recording devices

It's clean but the frame rate is not what you expect. 30p is OK but 24p comes out in an interlaced 60i signal that some devices can interpret, my Lilliput monitor for example, but not others, my Blackmagic Mini Recorder for example.
