Gh2 external mic problem?
Hey guys, I've attached an external mic (Azden ECZ990) with a 3.5 to 2.5mm converter cable and I don't think the camera actually functions with it. It appears as if the camera continues to use the onboard built-in mic to record audio- is there an option to use an external mic that must be "turned on" as I don't think it's working?
The ECZ has an on/off switch which I turn on to use but I'm not hearing a difference. Also of potential importance is the converter cable seems to have 3 possible electrical contacts whereas the mic simply has 2.....I was thinking the cable might be able to be used for video hence the other electrical contact area- which I assume isn't for use with audio....have I gotten the incorrect cable? 2.5mm to 3.5 mm Cell to Stereo Adapter - RadioShack.com (See link above for cable I'm using) Thanks in advance for any help! Re: Gh2 external mic problem?
Wrong cable. You need to add a mono to stereo adapter, if those are available. More likely you would be better off with a new mike.

Re: Gh2 external mic problem?
Gotcha, this explains it's non-functioning as desired.
Might you know of a site where I might source such a cable? My audio needs are quite simple and I think the mic I have will suffice. Thanks! |

Re: Gh2 external mic problem?
In a pinch you can pick one up at Radio Shack, they stock them at the stores. You can buy a right angle version online somewhere, but I've bought several that were no good and let me down (bought them ages ago and can't remember where). The Radio Shack one I have is long and sticks out a bit, but it works. I bought three right angle versions and only one was worth keeping but it is much better to use than the straight one.

Steve, I have the very similar Azden SMX-10, and I use a
to get the mic's signal into my Panasonics - it works great!
