GH13 Documentary Shoot for HD Broadcast - 1080 or 720?
I'm going to start filming a doc soon with my GH13 and am looking for advice.
Target for the 30 min doc is HD broadcast (50i). There will be some sit down interviews, and the ability to set up some shots. But there will also be some verite filming. No high speed action but some video following contributors walking, etc. I've been using the GH13 for awhile now and used to shoot lpowell in-camera playback, but with 25p checked. But after a few problems on a paid shoot I've gone back to 25p in 50i stream. However, for smoother motion I've thought about 720p50 and upscaling (though I've never actually tried it). Any words of advice? |

I'd try it first and see if you like it. Upscaling from 720p to 1080p isn't much of a leap but it doesn't look as good as true 1080p.

Re: GH13 Documentary Shoot for HD Broadcast - 1080 or 720?
Thanks Graeme.
One of the issues I have is lack of a large LCD or broadcast monitor (I live in a small village in Guatemala and edit on macbook pro with a Dell 21" LCD to view). In your experience how does 720p upscaled to 1080p compare to shooting 1080p25 in a 50i stream (which i presume doesn't look as good as native 25p - although seriously tough to tell on my 21" Dell). Biggest issue for me is how it will look on an interlaced 50i monitor. Thanks. |
