Sony monitor looks great
The new Sony 5" monitor is available, but only at Sony. It looks great. Actually it looks outstanding. Iit tilts, and has a screen hood, which I think is included, but not sure. It's smaller than the Marshall, but appears to be much higher quality.
I'm probalby going to order it ASAP.

Re: Sony monitor looks great
The monitor has a headphone jack, and the hood is included. Does anyone have opinion as to whether 5" is large enough? I think it would be. The common Marshall is 7".
Is there a downside to this monitor? One thing is you must a Sony battery.

Re: Sony monitor looks great
I have recieved the monitor yesterday, but could not test it for lack of battery in the box. Not sure why sony does not include a battery.
But looks great with the hood on my GH2. |

Re: Sony monitor looks great
That's too bad, no battery. It is great looking, no doubt. It will eventually go on sale at B&H, and it should cost less, but I honestly don't know if I want to wait that long!

B&H has them now as does Amazon. Good prices and the batteries are cheap.
http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/...95823#features Pearstone batteries around $26. |

Re: Sony monitor looks great
If the peaking works as advertised then the low resolution shouldn't be a problem for focusing. I used some Marshall monitors with the same resolution while shooting with 35mm primes on a HVX200 and the focusing was terrible without the focus assist function in the camera.

Re: Sony monitor looks great
Thanks for posting. The monitor does seem to be of adequate size.

Re: Sony monitor looks great
Jim just asked my question, but I will push it a bit further ...
The display is only 800x480 WVGA, so just how good is the resolution if you are shooting with a 1080i/p camera? With the vinetting illustrated in the video above, is the focus too soft? |
