New Panasonic G2 and G10 are announced
No word on the new GH-series yet but both the G2 and G10 have 720p video -- have not seen the frame rate listed anywhere though. Already on
-- but not due until June. Panasonic's official sites: http://panasonic.net/avc/lumix/systemcamera/gms/g2/index.html and http://panasonic.net/avc/lumix/systemcamera/gms/g10/index.html.
The G2 has some interesting features including a touch screen: YouTube- The New Lumix G2.mov How's your French? YouTube- Les fonctions tactiles du Lumix G2 A nice walk-through, although the kit lens is supposed to be the new Lumix G Vario 14-42mm f3.5-5.6 not the 14-45mm shown in this: YouTube- Présentation statique du Lumix G 2 Three new lenses are due in August; 8mm f3.5 fisheye, 14mm f2.8 pancake wide angle, and 100-300mm f4-5.6 zoom with Mega Optical Image Stabilizer. |

Touch screen looks cool but it from what I've read it seems shutter and ISO are auto in movie mode. It records AVCHD lite, and if it's the same as the GF1's implementation that means it will only shoot 25/30p recorded as 50/60p (with each frame doubled).

I see releasing these as a smart move but it's true, the 720 60p mode is no different than the GF1's.

I, like others, have been patiently waiting for the GH1's replacement (I want it in RED!). Some of the new features are cool. Love the touch screen. My old Opturas (MV1) had Flexi-Focus and the touch screen is even better.
I was originally going to get a GH1 for stills and specialized video (shallow DOF to kill distracting/ugly backgrounds, etc.) and as a backup to my video cameras. Then add a G1 as a backup for stills. The fact that the new G2 now shoots video makes it all that much more useful for my needs. The camera with you is always better than the one you left at home. |
